Zapier isn't primarily an AI tool — it's the automation layer that connects the other tools on this list. AI by Zapier lets you drop an AI decision-making step into an existing automation (e.g., "read this inbound lead email and route it based on intent") instead of hard-coded rules.

Zapier AI Actions (shown above) can trigger automations across its library of thousands of connected apps — far more integration breadth than an AI feature built into a single standalone tool.

New pricing model (June 2026)

As of June 15, 2026, AI by Zapier steps are priced by model tier rather than a flat rate. Your chosen tier sets the base task cost per run: Standard runs at 1x, Advanced (the default) at 3x, and Premium at 5x. Tool calls within an AI step add to that base cost at the same multiplier. You can also connect your own AI account/API key to run steps at the 1x rate regardless of tier.

The default-tier problem

New AI steps default to the Advanced tier (3x cost) specifically so you can use tool calls within the step. If your automation doesn't actually need tool-calling — say, it's just classifying or summarizing text — switching to Standard cuts your task consumption to a third of the default. This is the single easiest cost lever on the platform and it's opt-out, not opt-in, so check it on every AI step you build.
